Student Profile
MACKENZIE CREMEANS ’14
Mackenzie Cremeans ’14, an environmental geoscience and English literature double major who won several prestigious scholarships while at DePauw, went on to conduct graduate-level research for her doctoral degree. While currently a hydrogeologist at Shook, Hardy, and Bacon in Kansas City, MO, Mackenzie previously worked as a senior staff geologist at Geosyntec Consultants Inc. in Boca Raton, FL, and is a past-president of the Association for Women Geoscientists.
STUDENT PROFILE
STEPHEN DOBBS ’15
Stephen Dobbs ’15, a geology major, won the Ferid Murad Medal (named for Nobel laureate Ferid Murad ’58), which recognizes the senior who has had the most significant scholarly or artistic achievements during his/her/their time at DePauw. He twice was honorably mentioned for the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship. He is a Ph.D. candidate at Stanford University.
Faculty
Ken Brown, Ph.D., Miami University. His primary research combines fieldwork, elemental and isotopic analyses, geochronology, and high-spatial resolution techniques to place important constraints on ancient volcanic systems and the assembly of continents. Dr. Brown also conducts environmental research aimed at characterizing heavy metal contamination within urban environments.
Tim Cope, Ph.D., Stanford University. Received a National Science Foundation award and a DePauw faculty fellowship to study tectonic development and the geologic history of Northeast China. Has led numerous summer research field expeditions to China.
Scott Wilkerson, Ph.D., University of Illinois. Received an American Chemical Society/Petroleum Research Fund Award and a National Science Foundation Research Opportunity Award to study the 2-D and 3-D geometry of fault-related folds. Was recognized by the Geological Society of America for one of the top geoscience papers published in 2016.
