Mission & Priorities
DePauw Fraternity and Sorority Life Mission & Priorities
The following mission and priorities serve as the guiding principles in creating programming, education, and support for students.
Guiding Principles for Fraternity and Sorority Life
The staff in the Office of Student Involvement, in concert with the governing councils and chapters, utilize the following guiding principles when programming and supporting member students. The fraternity and sorority organizations of DePauw University believe in strong, healthy relationships as the foundation to a strong community. We aim to create rich, engaging opportunities for members to grow, learn, and thrive as they navigate their DePauw experience.
The DePauw University Fraternity & Sorority Life Commitments:
-
Provide opportunities for strong relationships. Through programming designed to build connections, students will learn to embrace accountability, cultivate curiosity, and establish trust and connection with one another.
-
Offer meaning-making experiences. By creating, sponsoring, and cultivating intentional opportunities to seek meaning from failures, successes, challenges, and triumphs. Through dynamic mentorships, direct leadership, and educational programming, fraternities and sororities aim to create space to help students grow both as an individual and as a member.
-
Cultivate a lifelong commitment to learning. Fraternities and sororities offer ample learning opportunities for students outside of the classroom. Through membership, students set the foundation for continued lifelong learning in concert with DePauw’s liberal arts tradition.
-
Enact an environment that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive. Fraternities, sororities, and their governing councils are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts by empowering socially responsible leadership for its members. Opportunities offered focus on doing good for the greater community, recognizing and challenging inequities in society, identifying root causes of social and systemic issues, and taking action-oriented steps to continually improve practices.
