Educational Programs and Training Opportunities

We are committed to promoting a community that teaches and models healthy life choices and to creating conditions that provide a safe environment for learning and living.

As part of this commitment, DePauw focuses many efforts on educating students about the risks of alcohol and drug abuse.

For Incoming Students

Before arriving on campus, all new students — both first-year and transfer students — are required to complete an online educational program about alcohol and drug use.

Through this program, students:

  • Receive information about DePauw’s substance-related policies.

  • Reflect on their own attitudes and perceptions about alcohol and drug usage.

As part of the First-Year Experience co-curriculum, students also participate in:

  • Educational programs and activities during New Student Orientation.

  • Ongoing programs throughout the first semester that focus on contributing to a healthy and safe campus community.

Training Opportunities

DePauw University provides a variety of training programs to educate and empower students.

  • TIPS is an evidence-based program used nationwide to equip college students with skills and resources to prevent intoxication and alcohol misuse on campus.

  • The program’s goal is to empower students to intervene when peers are misusing alcohol.

  • To schedule a TIPS session for a group of students (minimum of 15 required), contact Julia Proctor juliaproctor@depauw.edu.

  • Staff in the Division of Student Affairs are available to collaborate with student groups to create programs tailored to specific needs.

  • Students can reach out to staff in:

    • Fraternity and Sorority Life

    • Counseling Services

    • Office of Student Affairs

  • These teams will help determine the best approach and facilitate programming based on the group’s goals.
