Student Disability Services
Student Disability Services works with students who are challenged by long-term disabilities or temporary impairments. We provide access, motivation, understanding of learning strengths and challenges, and reasonable accommodations so that students become informed self-advocates. Empowered students can better take control of their own educational experience and reap the benefits of a liberal arts education.
DePauw University is committed to providing equal access and reasonable accommodations to university programs for students with a variety of learning, physical (health and/or mobility), and emotional challenges. We support students who have been diagnosed with both long-term disabilities, as well as temporary impairments and episodic conditions. Student Disability Services coordinates policies and procedures, provides services, and promotes accessibility for all qualified students. Student Disability Services also is the starting point for students who have a need for housing and/or dietary accommodations.
DePauw University treats all information provided by students with confidentiality as prescribed by federal and state law and university regulations. The Coordinator of Student Disability Services and ADA Compliance (www.ada.gov) facilitates the educational experience of students with disabilities by acting as a point of coordination for equal access to university programs.
In order to honor the independence, rights, and dignity of students with disabilities, requests for accommodations are strictly voluntary, confidential, and must be made by the student. It is our goal to make the process of requesting accommodations and educational supports a positive one, within a warm and welcoming environment. We encourage students to identify their personal learning strengths and to recognize and accommodate areas of challenge. Above all, students should learn how to advocate for themselves.
We invite you to have a conversation with us, and hope your experience at DePauw is filled with positive experiences, joy, and creativity.
