This course is an introduction to cinema as an artistic medium and equips students with the basic tools of film analysis. Through lecture, screenings and discussion, students will learn about film history and aesthetics to understand how to read films as trained and informed viewers. In doing so, we will learn how cinematic elements such as film grammar, mise en scene, cinematography, editing and sound work together to create meaning in film.
