Jeffrey M. McCall ’76 is the John D. Hughes Professor of Communication at DePauw. A Rector Scholar as a student at DePauw, after graduation he earned a master’s degree from the University of Illinois and doctoral degree from the University of Missouri.

He is a recognized authority on media and journalistic ethics and standards, having been quoted in dozens of newspaper articles across the country, including: Los Angeles Times, Christian Science Monitor, Newsday and Chicago Tribune. His columns on media issues have appeared in The Indianapolis Star, Chicago Tribune, Washington Times, Seattle Post-Intelligencer and many other papers nationwide. He has appeared several times on Fox News Channel’s The O’Reilly Factor to discuss media ethics and standards.

McCall teaches courses in broadcast jounalism, communication ethics, media law, and media and culture. He is the faculty supervisor of DePauw's nationally recognized radio station, WGRE-FM, which involves 200 students each semester. He is the recipient of numerous teaching awards at DePauw, including: a faculty fellowship (2005-08), excellence in teaching recognition by Mortar Board, faculty of the year award by Student Congress, and selected by the Sears-Roebuck Foundation for Teaching Excellence and Campus Leadership.

He serves as an editorial consultant for the Journal of Broadcasting and Electronic Media. He has professional media experience as a public radio news director and has filed numerous on-air reports for National Public Radio. He has also been a newspaper writer and political media consultant.

McCall is the author of a recently released book, Viewer Discretion Advised: Taking Control of Mass Media Influences, published by Rowman & Littlefield.
