Kent Haruf 2007.jpgSeptember 22, 2007, Greencastle, Ind. - Author Kent Haruf, whose novel Plainsong was nominated for the National Book Award, will present a reading at DePauw University. The Wednesday, October 3 event is presented by The James and Marilou Kelly Writers Series. The program begins at 7:30 p.m. in Meharry Hall of historic East College and is free and open to all.

Haruf is the author of four novels, most recently Eventide. The "follow-up to the critically acclaimed and bestselling Plainsong is as lovely and accomplished as its predecessor," opines Publisher's Weekly. It adds, "while there is much sadness and hardship in this portrait of a community, Haruf's sympathy for his characters, no matter how flawed they are, make this an uncommonly rich novel."

Plainsong was also nominated for the National Book Award, the Los Angeles Book Prize, the New Yorker Book Award, and won the Mountains & Plains Booksellers Award. Haruf's next book, a work of nonfiction, will feature the photography of Peter Brown, and he also is currently working on his next novel.
