Emergency Tests & Drills

Emergency Response and Evacuation Testing

Evacuation drills and exercises are conducted at the beginning of each semester in approved residential facilities housing at least 15 students or more.  The drills are coordinated with fire alarm testing and evaluate the evacuation process and include a post drill educational program.  The exercise evaluation is discussed with each living unit group noting any deficiencies and ensuring all participants are aware of fire extinguisher location, use, alarm pull stations, points of emergency egress, as well as proper evacuation procedures.

Once each year the Emergency Planning Committee participates in a full scale Table Top exercise.  The exercise involves all key CIRT officials and respective departments and generally occurs during January, or Winter Term of each year.  The exercise is evaluated for deficiencies, taken back to participating departments for review and updated procedures, and finally an “after action report” is filed noting comprehensive deficiencies and action steps for improvement.

New simulated response and evacuation exercise programs are planned for 2012, in addition to the table top exercise noted above.  The areas of exercise will be announced in advance and vary in location and incident type from year to year.  The scale of the exercise will be designed to fit the specific incident type and location of the simulated program and testing.
