Leaves:
Leaves are arranged in a large dense tuft, up to 2 feet tall, 3 feet across. Leaf blades are long and narrow.

Flowers are produced in spikelets. Flowers are wind-pollinated.

More Information:

The genus name Sporobolus is from the Greek for "seed-ejector," spora- is from the Greek for "seed" and -bolus is from the Greek for "to cast forth" referring to the plant's habit of dropping seeds at maturity.  The species name heterolepis is from the Greek, hetero for "varied" and lepis for "scale."
