This course uses concepts of economics to examine and analyze institutions, practices, financing, and policy of P-12 and higher education using the setting of the educational system in the United States. The course will include topics such as the sources of financing of public and private schools, school choice, school vouchers, charter schools, the impact of school district resources, school accountability, teacher quality, teachers¿ labor market, the higher education landscape, its history, financing of various types of higher education institutions, particularly in the United States, the impact of inputs in college courses such as quality of peers, instructors, and smaller class sizes in student learning and attainment, student incentives, the rising cost of college education and its impact, postsecondary instructors¿ labor market, and the impact of greater educational attainment on the labor market outcomes of students. For each topic, this course will examine the effects and broader ramifications of various educational policy changes. Prerequisite: Econ 100
