After graduating DePauw, Katie moved to Washington, D.C. to begin an internship with Senator John Hoeven on Capitol Hill. Having little to no interest in politics prior to graduating, Katie quickly became interested in the hustle of certain policy agendas that affected people back home in North Dakota. From there, Katie began working for a Congressman from North Dakota and started to focus on the communications side of political office.
After working on the Congressman’s campaign for Senate in 2012, Katie accepted a position working in the press office with Congresswoman Kristi Noem of South Dakota. After a year with the Congresswoman, Katie accepted the Director of Communications job with Congressman Tom Reed on his highly targeted re-election campaign to the U.S. House of Representatives. In this role, Katie managed all press operations for national and New York wide press, and finished the successful campaign with a landslide win in 2014.
Following the success of the campaign, Katie accepted the role of Communications Director with a freshman Congressman from New Jersey. Working with the Congressman for over a year to increase his profile, and place him on the House Financial Services Committee, Katie was named to the 30-Under-30 list in New Jersey politics, and recently ended her time with the Congressman after a sweeping re-election win with over 60% of the vote. Katie's political writing has appeared in Forbes, Washington Post, New York Times and the Wall Street Journal.
Katie recently accepted a position with Politico in Washington, D.C. as the Director of Communications for the media company. Politico is an American political-journalism organization that covers politics and policy in the United States and internationally.
