May 8: DePauw's Fall Planning and New Leadership Course

Dear DePauw Students, Faculty and Staff,

The end of the spring term has been difficult for everyone on multiple fronts, requiring us to change every aspect of our lives. What hasn’t changed is our longing to be back on campus with one another, which is a testament to the close-knit community we have built.

This shared desire has been a driving factor during our comprehensive fall planning efforts the past few weeks. After careful consideration, we plan to begin the fall term in August, in person and on campus, with significant health and safety precautions implemented to protect the health of our students, staff, faculty and the broader community. April 15: Updates for students, faculty and staff

Dear students, faculty and staff,

With just over three weeks of classes remaining in the spring term, we wanted to check in with each of you and provide updates on the work of the Cabinet, CIMT, and many others across campus.

Student Academic Life sent their first newsletter, SAL-utations, yesterday to all students. The email is a weekly check-in from the division and offers additional ways to stay connected while we are away from campus. Students should expect SAL-utations in their inboxes each Tuesday. Seniors and senior families will receive an update regarding Commencement tomorrow, and we will forward this information to employees as well. Read more.

April 6: On-Campus Summer Programs

Dear students, faculty and staff,

As you plan for the remainder of the spring term, we wanted to update you regarding May Term and summer on-campus programs. Due to the continued threat of the virus that causes COVID-19, we have regretfully decided that there will be no on-campus summer programs. This includes on-campus faculty-student summer research, on-campus internships and student employment, and on-campus summer camps. May Term travel courses were cancelled previously. While no on-campus May Term courses will be offered, we will offer several May Term courses that will be taught remotely. Details will be posted in the Schedule of Classes soon. Read more.

Today Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb has issued a stay at home order for the State of Indiana due to the virus that causes COVID-19. The executive order takes effect at 11:59pm on Tuesday, March 24.

The health and safety of our students, faculty and staff remain our highest priority and the CIMT and Cabinet have been preparing for such a scenario. We want to assure you that much of DePauw’s services will continue to operate. As such, as of 11:59 pm on Tuesday, March 24, we will suspend all on-campus operations with the exception of those that are essential and cannot be conducted remotely. Read more.

Good Morning,

Thank you to all the students that moved out of their housing units yesterday. This was a unique day at DePauw, and CDC recommendations continue to evolve. As of last night, the CDC released additional recommendations of no gatherings of more than 50 people for the next eight weeks. I appreciate all of the kindness and care students are showing one another as you adapt to the COVID-19 pandemic. Likewise, I am very grateful for the large number of staff and faculty that came to campus yesterday to offer support and resources to our students. Read more

March 15, 2020: Students Must Leave Campus Housing by 5 pm Monday

Dear DePauw students, faculty, staff and parents,

As you know, we have been monitoring the evolving COVID-19 situation while planning and preparing for its potential impact to our campus. The CDC has now declared a Global COVID-19 outbreak, which means that the U.S. is on a level 2 travel advisory

There are currently no presumptive positive or suspected cases of COVID-19 on campus. We will update the community immediately if that situation changes.

However, all students who are not already approved to stay and are not still awaiting a response to a previous submitted petition must leave campus at latest by Monday, March 16 at 5 p.m. Read more.

March 13, 2020: Faculty Staff Update

March 13, 2020: Departing Campus ASAP, Funding Resources

Dear students,

As you are wrapping up classes, it is urgent that you depart campus as soon as you are able. Once you leave campus, you are not allowed to return to campus until further notice.

Indiana’s Governor, Eric Holcomb, last night announced new steps to protect the public from COVID-19 in the state of Indiana, which includes limiting non-essential gatherings and social events, and encouraging employers to allow employees to telecommute. Although campus will be open, we need to reduce the number of students physically on campus and make decisions in the interest of community health. Read more.

March 11, 2020: Coronavirus Update: suspension of in-person courses

Dear DePauw Students, Faculty and Staff,

As we continue to monitor Coronavirus (COVID-19) developments, including its designation today as a global pandemic by the World Health Organization, it is increasingly clear that we need to take further action to protect the health of our campus and Greencastle community.

Although there are no suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19 on DePauw’s campus or in Greencastle, the number of cases in Indiana, the U.S. and across the globe continues to rise. Though unpredictable, the virus is known to be highly infectious and recommendations to slow transmission such as social distancing are challenging to achieve on our residential campus.  Read more.

Dear DePauw Students, Faculty and Staff,

After consultation with the Critical Incident Management Team and the Course and Calendar Oversight Committee, the Vice President for Academic Affairs has asked DePauw faculty to use the two days leading up to spring break (Thursday 3/19/20 and Friday 3/20/20) to prepare to shift to online instruction at a future date should that be needed. While in-person classes will not meet on these days, students may be expected to participate in virtual instructional activities and to complete assignments.  Staff will continue to work their regular schedule. The University will remain open on these dates and students will be fully supported. Faculty have received detailed information about resources for preparing for online instruction. Read more.

March 6, 2020: Coronavirus Update

Dear DePauw students, faculty, staff, parents and guardians,

We are writing to update you regarding COVID-19. The first positive case of COVID-19 has been identified in Marion County, Indiana, near Indianapolis. The individual is an adult who recently traveled to Boston, has a mild case of the virus and followed recommended protocols. Although Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb has declared a public health emergency, the individual is currently in isolation and the Indiana State Health Commissioner stated that there is no ongoing risk to the public.

There are currently no confirmed cases at DePauw and no suspected cases. Public health officials continue to advise that it is safer to remain in place and avoid large events or gatherings rather than travel elsewhere. Read more.
