Humberto Barreto is committed to improving the teaching of economics with the use of Microsoft Excel. He has written books on microeconomics and econometrics involving use of the software and is now writing a book about its use in macroeconomics.
Baretto has adopted a form of learning called "flipping the classroom" in which students watch video lectures at home and then do classwork in the classroom with discussion with the professor. He has an interest in mixing sports, statistics and economics – which come heavily into play in fantasy sports leagues. Barreto has served as a consultant to the NCAA and BCS.
Barreto is a native of Cuba.
