Scottish Folk Duo to Perform at DePauw

On Wednesday Apr 26, 2023 the DePauw Performing Arts Series will present the Scottish traditional folk duo of fiddle Alasdair Fraser and cellist Natalie Haas in concert at 7:30pm in Thompson Recital Hall in the Green Center for the Performing Arts (GCPA) on the DePauw University campus. Fraser and Haas are two of the preeminent proponents of a style which infuses elements of jazz and world dance music into traditional Scottish fiddling to create and eclectic blend of hard driving yet ethereal instrumental duets The Boston Globe has described as “...urbane as a Manhattan midnight and as wild as a Clackmannan winter.”

While at DePauw for a short residency Fraser and Haas will also appear on a WGRE radio show co- hosted by Professor David Gellman and Scott Riddle; will perform and talk to  students at the School of Music’s (SOM) weekly Convocation Hour on Wednesday the 26th at 11:30am, also in Thompson Recital Hall; and will visit a SOM composition class with Professor Eliza Brown and will conduct a string seminar with combined student string players. The final public offering by the world renowned duo will be Thursday evening at 6pm in the DePauw SOM satellite community center M2, or Music on the Square, downtown Greencastle, where Fraser and Haas will host a 6pm sharing circle “slow session” open to DePauw students and community members alike.

Both the Wednesday night 7:30 concert in Thompson Recital Hall in the GCPA and the 6p sharing circle Thursday evening at M2 on the courthouse square are free and open to the public.
