Jack Rosenow '54 is Candidate for Mayor of Las Cruces, NM

March 17, 2003

March 17, 2003, Greencastle, Ind. - Jack Rosenow, chief flight instructor for Southwestern Aviation Inc. at Las Cruces International Airport and a 1954 graduate of DePauw University, is one of four candidates running for mayor of that New Mexico city in a special election to be held tomorrow. The El Paso Times reports that Rosenow's "main concern as mayor would be ridding the Las Cruces City Council of what he calls the 'ordinance mentality.' 'It's excessive,' he said."

The story by Erica Molina adds, "Rosenow said he would also like to work on stabilizing the city's tax base, reducing fees at area swimming pools and increasing services at the Las Cruces International Airport. 'I'm also pushing for a code of ethics for the City Council,' he said."

Rosenow is the only candidate who is not a member of the City Council, and tells the paper voters seem to be embracing that. "I've had good response to my positions and my candidacy. People seem to be tuned in." The DePauw alumnus says he's going door-to-door to let people know who he is and what he stands for. "I'm trying to meet as many voters as I can. I feel very positive."
