The mission of the Rainbow community is to provide housing for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning students, as well as their allies. The restrooms will be gender-inclusive. As a resident or guest of the community, you are expected to be respectful and sensitive to all identities within the LGBTQ+ community.

Learning Outcomes

By living together on the Rainbow Floor, residents will become self-aware and empowered students who foster inclusion at DePauw and thrive together.  The following learning outcomes will be achieved:

  • Community

By living and learning together, members will cultivate a strong sense of self, community, and connection among LGBTQ+, gender expansive, and allied students.

  • Context and Knowledge

Members will gain a greater understanding of LGBTQ+ identities and cultures related to historical and contemporary experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, aromantic, and gender-expansive individuals.

  • Inclusion And Belonging

A strong sense of belonging will be fostered by members taking care of one another, accepting others, making meaningful connections with each other, building an affinity towards the hall/university, and being the best version of themselves.

House of Opulence

A safe community built through radical inclusivity + education. The goal of the House of Opulence is to cultivate a safe and respectful community, addressing the unique issues impacting the queer, LGBTQIA+, and trans community on DePauw University’s campus by creating a surrogate-family structure that promises radical acceptance. Our mission is to involve and educate the members of DePauw University on the intersectionality of queerness and being a student of color.
