Frequently Asked Questions

DePauw is centrally located in the United States in Greencastle, Indiana. Greencastle – a safe and welcoming community with a population of 10,000 – is a 40-minute drive from the Indianapolis, Indiana, metropolitan area of about 800,000 people. Greencastle is within a three-hour drive from Chicago, Cincinnati and St. Louis. The campus has 36 major buildings on 695 acres (281 hectares), including a 520-acre (210-hectare) nature park.

DePauw is a 35-minute drive from the Indianapolis International Airport. Daily flights are available on multiple major airlines. Transportation to campus is provided during major breaks and when students first arrive to campus in the summer. 

Our 4-1-4 calendar system consists of two 15-week semesters separated by a four-week winter term that is devoted to internships, study abroad or volunteer service. Learn more about Winter Term.

Yes. DePauw offers credit for both. Typically, students should score a 4 or higher on the AP exams and a 5 or higher on IB higher-level exams to be considered for credit. Visit our Advanced Credit and Placement page to learn more.

All students live on campus all four years and can choose from a diversity of living options – everything from traditional residence halls to Greek houses*, from singles to suites, from university-owned apartments and duplexes to theme houses. Our residential system includes nine residence halls, multiple theme communities, a unique village of small halls and over 95 university-owned apartment and housing units. In our communities, residents have the opportunity to become involved in a variety of leadership, social and athletic activities.

Yes, the International Student Affairs office serves the needs of the international students on campus. International students and scholars are bringing their own experience of the world to the DePauw community while enjoying the many benefits that a DePauw education has to offer. The International Student Advisors in the Center for Diversity and Inclusion assist international students, scholars and international faculty and staff at DePauw by advising them about federal immigration, tax and labor regulations and providing counseling about personal, academic and cultural matters. In addition, Multicultural & International Life promotes cross-cultural awareness in the DePauw and Greencastle communities through educational programming such as orientation, cultural adjustment, international events and community programs.

An international applicant is any student who is not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (green card holder), regardless of where they currently attend school. This includes students studying in the U.S. on a visa and those studying outside the United States.

Our school is SAT or ACT test-optional. If English is not your first language and your primary language of instruction has not been English, the TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo exam is required.

SAT subject tests are not required for admission.

All international students will be considered for merit-based scholarships upon acceptance to DePauw. Our scholarships are based primarily on academic competitiveness (grades in school, SATs, TOEFL/IELTS, course work) and the following is also considered: need, strength of overall application, community service work, activities, etc. DePauw offers a limited amount of need-based assistance for international students.
