Prof. Ron Dye Tapped by Kennedy Center Festival

August 10, 2001

August 10, 2001, Greencastle, Ind. - Ronald L. Dye, instructor of English and coordinator of the Performing Arts Series at DePauw University, has been appointed vice chair of playwriting (region III) for the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. Region III covers five midwestern states. In his role, Dye will review and judge university theatre productions and new student-written plays that are submitted to the Series.

“I'm really happy about it,” Dye says. “I participated in the Kennedy Series as a college student and went to a lot of festivals. The experiences and contacts really opened a lot of doors to me, and I'm delighted to give back to the organization. I think it's great for DePauw, too, as it will underscore on a regional and national level that we do dramatic writing here and give our programs more visibility,” he continued.

Ron Dye teaches playwriting in the English department and directs a mainstage theatrical production for the communication arts and sciences department. He has spent more than a dozen years working professionally in theatre as a playwright, director, actor and administrator, primarily in Chicago, Indianapolis and Bloomington, Indiana. He is former artistic director of both the Bloomington Playwrights Project and Turtle Island Theatre Company, and was director of theatre for the Bloomington Area Arts Council for more than six years.
