14 Putnam County Students Receive 2005 Edgar A. Prevo Scholarships

East College 2005 1.jpgJuly 29, 2005, Greencastle, Ind. - Fourteen outstanding Putnam County scholars -- four from North Putnam High School, two from South Putnam and one from Greencastle High, as well as seven returning DePauw University undergraduates -- are the recipients of 2005 Edgar A. Prevo Scholarships. Established in 1977 by a bequest from Edgar A. Prevo, longtime Greencastle businessman and member of DePauw's Class of 1912, the scholarships are exclusively for outstanding graduates of Putnam County's high schools. Selection of Prevo Scholars is based upon a number of factors including high school academic achievement, academic potential for college, financial need, and SAT scores.

The 2005 Prevo Scholars are:

  • Marissa Fenton, freshman, Roachdale, North Putnam H.S.
  • Alexandra Hirt, freshman, Greencastle, Greencastle High School
  • J.D. Miller, freshman, Coatesville, South Putnam H.S.
  • Ryan Minor, sophomore, Greencastle, South Putnam H.S.
  • Jacob M. Osborn, freshman, Fillmore, South Putnam H.S.
  • Krista Rust, freshman, Bainbridge, North Putnam H.S.
  • John Sibbitt, sophomore, Greencastle, Greencastle H.S.
  • Lauren Wendling, freshman, Roachdale, North Putnam H.S.
  • Brittany Williamson, freshman, Greencastle, North Putnam H.S.
  • Jeremy Wilson, sophomore, Greencastle, Greencastle H.S.

"The generosity of Mr. Prevo, who passed away in 1975, continues to benefit the community and its most talented students smile 2005.jpgyoung scholars," says Stefanie Niles, dean of admission at DePauw. "It was heartening to see so many of the area's top students choosing to continue their education at DePauw, and we'll be delighted to welcome them next month."

Prevo Scholarships may range in value up to full tuition for one year. The scholarship is also subject to renewal each year the recipient remains qualified for the award. Applicants must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and DePauw's Application for Need-Based Assistance.
