Under Stephens' leadership, the Delt Foundation's net assets tripled (from $4 million to $14.5 million); known bequests increased from $2 million to $17.9 million; and it awarded $6.5 million in grants to the fraternity for educational and leadership programs.

Stephens served as the fraternity's international president from 1992-94 and Norval Stephens mag 2010.jpgwas presented the Delt Foundation's Crystal Vision Award in 2000 for his lifetime of giving and service.  In 2001, he was named outstanding volunteer of the year among all Greek organizations, and was inducted into his fraternity's Badge of Honor Shrine in 2005.

Stephens also lead the formation of a national anti-hazing hotline in 2007.

A life member of DePauw's Board of Trustees, Norval Stephens received the University's Old Gold Goblet in 1994.
