Russian Cultural Party a Culinary Hit

November 17, 2014

On Sunday, Nov. 16, students gathered at the Women’s Center for the annual Russian cultural party. Organized by Marina Guseva, a visiting Fulbright Scholar from Russia and part-time instructor of modern languages, the event included cooking traditional dishes, modern Russian music and a short play in Russian performed by the students. Making pelmeni (meat filling wrapped in thin dough) and sharlotka (delicious apple pie) from scratch was not easy, but it was definitely a lot of fun and the result was worth it! The guests also enjoyed a cup of black tea, considered a national beverage in Russia and traditionally served with a slice of lemon.

The event was sponsored by the Russian Studies Program and the Department of Modern Languages, with special thanks to Director of Russian Studies Prof. Masha Belyavski-Frank.
