New Exhibition, 'Selections from the Permanent Collection', at Peeler Art Center

April 14, 2003, Greencastle, Ind. - “Selections from the Permanent Collection,” an exhibition featuring works from DePauw University's permanent art collection, will be on view at the Richard E. Peeler Art Center from April 14 – June 15, 2003. The show will feature key works, many long relegated to storage, that represent three of the main areas of emphases of DePauw's permanent collection: regional art from the late 19th and early-20th century, particularly Indiana artists associated with the Hoosier Group; prints and works on paper; and modern and contemporary art.

Members of the Hoosier Group included in the exhibition will include such prominent artists as Olive Rush, Carl Woolsey, Blanche Stillson, Clifton Wheeler, Glenn Cooper Henshaw, and Wayman Adams. DePauw's collection also contains strong holdings of prints and works on paper from a culturally, geographically, ethnically and historically diverse group of artists. Artists represented in this exhibition will include European artists such as Suzanne Valadon, Jean Miró, Käthe Kollwitz, Paul Gauguin, Francisco Goya, Jacques Villon, and Georges Braque. Prints by United States artists Chen Hilo, Alexander Calder, Georgia O'Keefe, and Mary Brewster Hazelton will also be included.

The collection area of modern and contemporary art will be represented by works from such renowned artists as Chuck Close, Luis González Palma, John Salvest, Dorothy Dehner, Robert Mapplethorpe, Thedoros Stamos, and Alan Cohen.

The galleries at the Richard E. Peeler Art Center are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday 1–5 p.m. The exhibit is free and open to the public. For more information, send an e-mail by clicking here.
