Recent Grad Joe Schoen's DePauw Internship Leads to NFL Scouting Job

January 8, 2002

January 8, 2002, Greencastle, Ind. - "I always wanted to play in the NFL, but this is probably the second best thing -- being employed as a scout by the NFL," 2001 DePauw University graduate Joe Schoen told his hometown newspaper, Indiana's Elkhart Truth. Schoen, who played wide receiver for the Tigers while a student at DePauw, is now one of five scouts for the Carolina Panthers.

"I graduated on Saturday, May 19, and flew down here (to Florida) and was working on May 21st," Schoen told the Truth, which noted, "a college internship in the ticket office ... eventually led to his current position." The article also notes that Schoen "credits his father, (his high school coach) Phil Teegarden and DePauw coach Nick Mourouzis for his gridiron savvy. 'Those guys have taught me so much about football,' he says."

The lengthy article on Schoen describes his job and captures the exuberance he feels about the position, and the game of football. You can read the story, in its entirety, at the Truth's web site. Getting there is as simple as clicking here.
