Senior Kinisha McKeel Wins National Forensics and Debate Competition

March 12, 2003

March 12, 2003, Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw University senior Kinisha McKeel is a national champion. Over the weekend, McKeel, a member of the DePauw Forensics Team, was ranked #1 in collegiate, varsity Poetry Interpretation Performance at the Delta Sigma Rho-Tau Kappa Alpha National Honorary Tournament held on the campus of Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The senior also ranked second in collegiate, varsity Prose Interpretation Performance, missing out on a first-place finish in that category by a single point.

The DSR-TKA national tournment is composed of the best universities/colleges in the nation competing in forensics and debate. Besides DePauw, other schools in attendance included the University of Florida, Colorado College, the University of Alabama, Cornell University, Ohio University, and the University of Mississipi.

DePauw's Forensics Team was reinstituted this year after a hiatus of about a decade. The squad will be traveling to two more national events in the next month: the National Parliamentary Debate Tournament in Portland, Oregon March 26 through the 31st, and the National Forensics Association's National Tournament in Muncie, Indiana April 17th-21. The team is coached by Curt Gilstrap, instructor of communication arts and sciences.
