Newspaper Profiles County Councilman Richard "Buzz" Horton '73

April 8, 2006

April 8, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - "It’s a very exciting time to be involved in the county government," says Richard G. "Buzz" Horton -- a farmer, White County (Indiana) Councilman and 1973 graduate of DePauw University. Horton, who is seeking a third term on the council, is profiled in the Monticello Herald Journal. "It’s a very exciting time to be involved in the county government," he tells the newspaper.

The story notes that "Horton has a bachelor’s degree in economics from DePauw University... (and) said that he would like to see local government continue to incorporate some of the practices of privately-run businesses." Horton adds, "I try to treat the taxpayers’ money like I would treat my own. By nature of my occupation, I’m a conservative person... Certainly, government will never run like a business, but we need to get some of the business efficiencies,” he declares.

Horton has also served on the North White School Corporation Board of Trustees and the Indiana Commission for Agriculture and Rural Development.
