Ralph Raymond is a member of the 1986 selection committee for Rhodes Scholarships in Indiana," begins an item in today's Terre Haute Tribune-Star. "Raymond is a member of the department of political science at DePauw University. The six-member committee is made up of former Rhodes Scholars and distinguished citizens under the chairmanship of Thomas Lake, chairman of Lilly Endowment in Indianapolis."

Dr. Raymond received a Rhodes Scholarship in 1961.

"Scholarship recipients study for two or three years at Oxford University in England. Scholars receive tuition in any field for any degree offered by the 800-year-old university," notes the newspaper. "The scholarships were established in 1902 by Cecil John Rhodes. The first awards were made in 1904; since then 2,436 Rhodes Scholars have been elected from the United States.Old DePauw Gold EC Logo.jpg

Ralph Raymond joined the DePauw faculty in 1971. He earned his A.B. from Harvard College in 1961, was awarded a diploma by Queen's College University of Oxford in England in 1963, and the next year received an A.M. from Harvard University, where he earned his Ph.D. in 1971.
