Prof. Heather Sloan to Present at 'Jazz from the Caribbean Perspective'

April 4, 2011, Greencastle, Ind. — Heather L. Sloan, part-time assistant professor of music at DePauw University, will make a presentation at the international conference of Caribbean Music, Identity, and Culture (MIC). The biennial event, with a theme of "Jazz from the Caribbean Perspective," will take place April 15-17 in Santiago, Dominican Republic, and will be attended by performers, scholars, and educators from more than 20 countries.
Sloan's presentation is entitled "Soul Sauce: The Influence of Vibraphonist Cal Tjader in the World of Latin Jazz." It will focus on issues of cultural exchange between Caribbean and American jazz artists.
The conference is co-facilitated by the Institute of Caribbean Studies (IENC-New York) and the León Cultural Center (Centro León, Santiago).
Founded in 1884, the DePauw University School of Music is one of the nation's oldest private institutions for post-secondary music instruction and the longest-running in Indiana.
