October 13, 2014
Mark Johnson, a 1988 graduate of DePauw University, has joined Capital Results, a leading provider of government relations, public affairs and business consulting services, and will lead the firm's public relations division in Raleigh, North Carolina.
"Johnson, who joins the firm as a partner, served as a communications adviser in the governor’s office and as director of external affairs for the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences, leading marketing and communications for one of the state’s most visited cultural attractions," notes today's announcement. "He also is a former vice president with Capstrat. He spent more than two decades in journalism, including as an embedded reporter with the 82nd Airborne Division during the invasion of Iraq, as well as reporting from an earthquake in Haiti, the halls of Congress, presidential campaigns and, for a decade, the corridors of power in Raleigh. His reporting won honors from the Associated Press, Knight Ridder and the Secretary of the Army.
"Mark has an unmatched combination of accomplishments in journalism, deep knowledge of the capital and strategic communications experience at the highest levels of state government that will benefit our clients," states Jay Smith, a partner in the firm.
"Capital Results’ approach to helping their clients engage in public policy decisions is a terrific fit for me," notes Johnson, who was a political science major at DePauw. "They’re on the leading edge of integrating government relations with media relations, grassroots activism and new media. They know what it takes to help their clients win, and I look forward to bringing that same enthusiasm and proven track record to our clients in North Carolina."
In 2003, Mark Johnson returned to DePauw to discuss his experiences as an embedded reporter with the 82nd Airborne in Iraq. Read more in this previous story.Back
