April 9, 2015
DePauw University's multicultural community and its many traditions will be celebrated April 17-19 during Philanthropy & Excellence Weekend. Presented by DePauw's Office of Alumni Engagement, the event will feature panel discussions featuring DePauw alumni, an update on the University from President Brian W. Casey, and a keynote presentation Sunday morning by Ed Garnes '99 (pictured), founder of the Atlanta-based community organization, From Afros To Shelltoes.
An English (writing) major at DePauw and founder of From Afros to Shelltoes, Ed Garnes holds an M.A. in counseling from Michigan State University. He contributed essays to the anthologies, Where Did Our Love Go and Not In My Family: AIDS in the African American Community.
Philosopher and activist Cornel West has stated that Garnes "writes well, works hard and revels in the life of the mind."
