Volunteer with the Hubbard Center for Student Engagement
Through assistance such as offering internship opportunities and sharing your professional experiences, alumni can help students discover and refine their career interests and prepare them for the job search process.
Provide Internship Opportunities
Internships are valuable opportunities for students to not only gain active “real-world” experience and explore career options, but also to discover greater purpose and focus in academic learning. All students are encouraged to take advantage of internship opportunities during the school year or over the summer. You can help students find their professional calling by hosting interns with your company.
- Submit your internship opportunities online through the Hubbard Center for Student Engagement's website.
- Hear first-hand accounts from students who have participated in the Summer Internship Program.
Provide Job Shadowing Opportunities
Winter Term is an excellent opportunity for students to participate in a full-time, month-long externship to gain first-hand experience in a career field of a student’s choosing. Offering this type of experience with your company can provide valuable insight for students as they continue their education.
Serve as a Mentor for Current Students
Sharing your professional experiences and advice you’ve gathered along the way can be invaluable for students considering a similar career path. By choosing to serve as a mentor for one or multiple current students you can have a role in helping to shape their future past graduation.
Speak on Campus
The Center for Student Engagement often sponsors informal sessions featuring alumni sharing stories about their paths after graduating from DePauw. These sessions allow students to learn more about the successes of our alumni and hear valuable advice for their own professional futures.
Represent Your Company on Campus
There are a wide variety of ways you can represent your company on campus to connect with students. These opportunities help students develop their professional skills and explore potential interests while giving alumni and their companies opportunities to network with students and identify potential future hires. Opportunities include:
- Coming to campus to interview students during the fall and spring semesters.
- Sharing information about your organization or profession by sitting at our walk-in advising bar in the Union Building or presenting in an information session.
- Participating in career fairs to share information about your company and recruit future employees.
Participate in special events
The Center for Student Engagement hosts a variety of special events throughout the school year to connect students and alumni. These opportunities include participating in the Sophomore Institute and assisting in pre-med or pre-law advising.
participate in winter term in service
Through Winter Term in Service, medical professionals have been accompanying DePauw students on international medical brigades for 40 years. They provide direct medical assistance and healthcare services to low income communities and act as a mentor to the team of students.
