Kirsten Landowne Presents Guest Cello Recital Sunday Afternoon

April 5, 2007

Kirsten Landowne.jpgApril 5, 2007, Greencastle, Ind. - Cellist Kirsten Landowne will present a special guest artist recital at DePauw University this Sunday, April 8, at 4:30 p.m. Accompanied by pianist Stephanie Gurga, the program -- which will take place in the Performing Arts Center's Thompson Recital Hall -- follows Landowne's recently performed master’s recital, given at Edison-Duckwall Recital Hall at Butler University Monday. The event is free and open to the public.

Sunday's performance will clearly present Landowne’s dedication to works in the classical repertoire as well as contemporary composition. Both staples in the repertoire, she will perform Debussy’s Sonata in D Minor for cello and piano, as well as Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations. In addition, she will be performing Biljana Bozonivska’s 2004 composition Nostalgia for solo cello, as well as a work for cello and piano, will the quiet times come (written by DePauw professor of composition and theory Carlos Carrillo, who is Landowne's husband). The work by Carrillo is Kirsten Landowne2.jpgparticularly exciting, juxtaposing a screaming cello part with a background of furious Latin and samba rhythms in the piano accompaniment.

Landowne is an accomplished performer and teacher, having completed studies at the Eastman School and Butler University. She now performs regularly with several Indiana symphonies as well as keeping a teaching studio in Lafayette, Indiana.
