Beginning Fall 2020, the School of Music and the Department of Communication and Theatre will offer a joint minor in Musical Theatre.
DePauw University presents a fully staged musical each year as part of the mainstage season. Past shows have included Sister Act: The Musical, A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, Company, Into the Woods, Parade, Urinetown, and Young Frankenstein.
The School of Music offers a variety of courses in dance, musical theatre history and literature, and musical theatre scenes. Through the Department of Communication and Theatre, students can study acting, voice and movement, theatre history, and technical theatre.
As part of expanding Musical Theatre offerings, the School of Music as been bringing guest artists from Broadway. These guests – both performers and composers – work with students in master classes, classroom instruction, show preparation, and performance. Guests have included Marla Mindelle, Kevin Massey, Laura Belle Bundy, Alice Ripley, Laura Osnes, Jason Robert Brown, and Adam Guettel. During Summer 2019, the school began bringing Broadway guests to the Vocal Arts at DePauw Summer Camp; 2019 featured Christy Altomare from Broadway's Anastasia.
