Psychiatric Services

Counseling Services provides medication evaluation and management of mental health concerns through their consulting psychiatrist Dr. Snelson. Dr. Snelson is a board certified psychiatrist who has many years of experience working and addressing the unique treatment needs of young adults. Our psychiatrist collaborates closely with the therapists regarding the mental health care of students and provides medication evaluation, monitoring, and education to our students.

Medication is one option to address mental health concerns. Counseling Services utilizes a combined treatment model whereby psychiatric and psychotherapy services are integrated, since medication is often most effective when combined with active engagement in psychotherapy. Routine referrals for an initial psychiatric evaluation typically occur during the course of established therapeutic work with a clinician, although occasionally an expedited referral (based on specific criteria) may be made by a clinician soon after initiation of services at Counseling Services.
