Gifts In Action

Old Gold Weekend 2017 kicked off with the formal dedication of the James G. Stewart ’64 Plaza, located between The Memorial Student Union Building and Hoover Hall. Stewart was chief financial officer for Cigna Corporation from 1993 to 2002 and served on DePauw’s Board of Trustees from 2003 until he passed away in May of 2016.  The Plaza is named in recognition of Stewart’s service and a $5 million gift he made to The Campaign for DePauw in 2015.

Stewart's wife, Andrea Anania Stewart, spoke along with President McCoy and former chair of the Board of Trustees Dave Hoover ’67 in sharing a remembrance of him during the dedication ceremony. The plaza, which features two fountains, multiple seating areas and a large terrace event space, reconnects the south of campus to its heart – East College lawn and the Academic Quadrangle.
