Shifting Gaze: A Reconstruction of The Black & Hispanic Body in Contemporary Art
On view: March 1 – June 20, 2021

Greencastle, IN – DePauw University presents a Shifting Gaze: A Reconstruction of The Black & Hispanic Body in Contemporary Art opens March 1 and runs through June 20, 2021.

Featuring 25 internationally renowned artists who have drawn upon art history, American history, and popular culture to create powerful works that present a broad range of concepts about identity, beauty, belonging, and poignant issues of race. Through various media, such as painting, sculpture, drawing, and collage, the exhibition provides a visually engaging perspective from the vantage point of the Black and Hispanic body—and one that especially needs to be experienced today.

The power of this collection, conceptually, formally, across contexts, sensibilities, and interests is the result of the extraordinary vision and passionate quest of collector Dr. Feldman who shares with us an unparalleled visual intellect fueled by his knowledge, curiosity, humanity, and keen eye.

Online viewing options, lectures, and exhibition catalog is available for remote engagement. For an up-to-date listing of free events and lectures associated with the exhibition, please visit: https://www.depauw.edu/arts-and-culture/arts/peeler/exhibits/
