November 5, 2005

marks110505.jpgNovember 5, 2005, Terre Haute, Ind. - DePauw University's offense exploded this afternoon setting a new modern for the football program's biggest single-game point total as the Tigers defeated Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, 60-21. Sophomore Jeremiah Marks (seen at left) rushed for 162 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries. Running backs Daniel Stauffer, Jason Murphy and Dorrius Ford added one each.

The win means DePauw shares the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference title with Trinity. It is the Tigers' second-ever SCAC championship; they shared the 2000 title with Trinity and Sewanee.

Today's victory is DePauw's seventh straight after an opening game 31-26 loss to Wesley. The Tigers are 7-1 on the season and finish 5-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Rose-Hulman falls to 5-4 on the season and 2-3 in conference play.

The Tigers 60 total points eclipses the modern day record of 55 DePauw points, set in 1982 versus Washington University. The all-time record is 99 points scored against Moore's Hill in 1913.

The final football battle of the season, per tradition, is for the Monon Bell next Saturday. Arch rival Wabash College will enter the game 9-0. The Little Giants came into today's action ranked #20 in NCAA Division III andmarkshope.jpg defeated Denison 52-0.

The Monon Bell is again a sellout, but the game will be televised nationally on DirecTV Channel 321 and can be seen in the Indianapolis area on WHMB/Channel 40. Alumni will gather in a record-tying 52 cities to watch the live telecast at parties. DePauw's beloved Coach Ted Katula will be honored in ceremonies following the game.
