Bethany Abercrombie, a calculus teacher at South Oldham High School in Crestwood, Kentucky, and 2003 graduate of DePauw University, is the recipient of a 2014 ExCEL (Excellence in Classroom and Educational Leadership) Award. As she was honored in her classroom, Abercrombie "was praised as a teacher whose classroom is happy and energized," reports Louisville's WHAS-TV.

Gary Roedemeier reports, "Abercrombie says happiness describes the learning environment in her classroom. She says, the challenge is to get students working, focused and engaged so she has their attention for a full 50 minutes."
