Mellencamp Guitarist Mike Wanchic '74 Remembers Tiger Playing Days

November 12, 2010

87830November 12, 2010, Greencastle, Ind. — An Indianapolis Star report on last night's Hinkle Fieldhouse concert by John Mellencamp notes, "During the screening of a documentary film shown before every date of the 'No Better Than This' tour, longtime Mellencamp guitarist Mike Wanchic passed time with his family near the center of the arena. Wanchic played cornerback for DePauw University's football team in the early '70s, so he's no stranger to the Butler Bowl. Thursday, however, marked his first visit to Hinkle." A member of DePauw's Class of 1974, Mike Wanchic has co-produced a number of Mellencamp's hit records and is the longtime director of the singer-songwriter's band, of which he's been a member for more than 30 years.  Wanchic has also produced a variety of other musicians, including Cowboy Mouth, Blessid Union of Souls, and James McMurtry. In a December 2006 interview, he called DePauw "a great experience."
