Elizabeth A. (Betsy) Demmings Executive Assistant to the President
Betsy Koenig Demmings ’75, who majored in psychology, is the Executive Assistant to the President, a position she has held since 2000 during terms of three chief executives. She oversees the daily business of the President’s office, which requires extensive liaising with DePauw’s many constituencies, both internal and external.
Betsy has made her home in Greencastle since 1977. In addition to owning her own business for nine years, she served Putnam County as its Chief Juvenile Probation Office for 6years, and remains a member of the county’s Child Protection Team.
The mother of three grown children and grandmother to three, Betsy volunteers with area community organizations and within her church.
Dave Berque Vice President for Academic Affairs
Dave holds a B.A. degree from Haverford College and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
He teaches a wide range of computer science courses and has particular teaching and research interests related to Human Computer Interaction and pen-based computing. Dave also teaches interdisciplinary courses related to design. He holds three United States Patents and is the originator of a pen-based instructional technology software system that is the basis of the commercial system now known as DyKnow.

Deedie Dowdle Vice President for Communications and Marketing
Dowdle previously worked at Auburn University as well as Kennesaw State University and has more than 30 years experience in marketing and communications in higher education, agencies, and private and public sector organizations.
Dowdle holds a bachelor’s degree in public relations from the University of Alabama and master's in professional writing from Kennesaw State University. She has experience leading teams in branding, strategic planning, integrated marketing, public and media relations, advertising, web management, video production and crisis communications.

Finance and Administration
Bob Leonard Vice President for Finance and Administration
Robert R. (Bob) Leonard serves as Interim Vice President of Finance and Administration. He has more than 30 years of diverse business experience including strategy, business development, finance and operations.
Bob has served as a Partner with the big-four accounting firm KPMG and held executive positions (President, COO, CFO) with At-A-Glance Consumer Products, a leading publisher of pictorial calendars and posters. He has also held executive management positions with two entrepreneurial, web-based, start-up companies (one he co-founded), and most recently, prior to joining DePauw, Bob served as a consultant to both C-suite executives and entrepreneurs. He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Indiana University and has been previously certified (no longer practicing) as a public accountant and personal financial specialist.
School of Music
Mellasenah Morris DEAN, DEPAUW UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MUSIC
Mellasenah Morris earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from the Peabody Conservatory of Music. She completed a Master of Music degree in Piano Pedagogy and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance at the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University. She studied with Julio Esteban and performed in master classes with such artists as Leon Fleisher, Irvin Freundlich, Fernando Laires, and David Burge. Also, she has received coachings from Ann Schein and William Bolcom.
Dr. Morris gave a debut recital at Carnegie Recital Hall. Since that time, her performances have included solo and lecture recitals throughout the east coast and mid-west, as well as at St. Martin-in-the-Fields, London, England; and numerous appearances as an accompanist and chamber music performer, specializing in contemporary music. She has appeared as soloist with the Atlanta University Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, Maryland Women's Symphony Orchestra, the James Madison University Wind Symphony and Symphony Orchestra, and The Ohio State University Orchestra.
Along with a varied performing career, Mellasenah Morris has enjoyed several academic appointments, including service on the faculty of the Peabody Conservatory. Other positions have included Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs at Peabody, Dean of the School of Music and Professor of Piano at Alabama State University, and Director of the School of Music and Professor of Piano both at James Madison University and at The Ohio State University. She has recently retired from her position as Dean of the Conservatory and Deputy Director of the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University and joined the DePauw University School of Music as Interim Dean.
Dr. Morris has been an active participant in the National Association of Schools of Music, serving as a panelist, moderator, and presenter for numerous sessions at annual meetings and chairing accreditation teams. Currently, she is in her second term as national treasurer and as a member of the Executive Committee and Executive Board. Her most recent scholarly pursuits have included a biographical sketch on American composer Florence Price for Carlson Publications and pedagogical presentations for various chapters of Music Educators Association on intermediate-level French piano repertoire. Mellasenah Morris has been on the Friends Board of WOSU Public Media in Columbus, Ohio, and on the Board of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra.
Student Academic Life
Alan Hill Vice President for Student Academic Life and Dean of Students
Alan P. Hill, a 1981 graduate of DePauw serves as Vice President for Student Academic Life and Dean of Experiential Learning, and re-joined the DePauw administration in August 2016.
Alan earned a master's degree from the University in 1983. He began his career as a marketing representative for IBM, and returned to DePauw where he spent a decade in several key administrative roles, including director of financial aid, dean of students and assistant to the provost. He served in his first vice president role at Alma College as the vice president for enrollment and student affairs. He then spent 14 years working at Franklin College, where he was vice president of enrollment and student affairs and later named vice president for enrollment and marketing. Prior to his return to DePauw, he most recently served as dean for professional development at Wabash College.
Hill and his wife Jennett ’85 have been married for 30 years and have two adult children, Courtney and Preston. Active in community service, Alan has served on the boards of Park Tudor School and the Charles A. Tindley Accelerated High School in Indianapolis.
