DePauw Hosts Vocal Performance Workshop, June 12-18; Three Free Concerts Planned

June 9, 2005, Greencastle, Ind. - Vocal Arts at DePauw '05, a vocal performance workshop for high school students, will be held June 12-18 at DePauw University. Forty students from across the United States and Canada will attend the sessions. Additionally, a writing camp for high school students will run concurrently on campus this year. The event also features three concerts, all of which are free and open to the public.

The opening faculty concert will be Sunday, June 12, at 7 p.m. in Thompson Recital Hall of DePauw's Performing Arts Center. The performance will feature DePauw vocal professors Stanley Irwin, Keith Tonne, Caroline Smith, Barbara Paré and Kimberly Randall, as well as accompanist Amanda Hopson.

"The camp is a fantastic opportunity for talented high school vocalists to come and experience DePauw and to sample the voice area and its many offerings," states Caroline Smith (seen below right), coordinator of vocal music at DePauw and director of Vocal caroline b smith.jpgArts at DePauw '05. "We are excited that the camp is in its fifth year of operation and look forward to working with these very capable young men and women!"

Two additional concerts will be held during the course of the upcoming week. On Tuesday evening, June 14, there will be a concert featuring current DePauw voice and writing majors at 7 p.m. in Thompson Recital Hall. Concluding the week's intensive activities will be a final concert featuring all forty of the camp's participants. This event will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, in Thompson Recital Hall.
