Entrepreneur Melinda Maine Garvey '89 is Office Depot 'Businesswoman of the Year'

Melinda Maine GarveyJune 23, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - Melinda Maine Garvey, co-founder and publisher of austinwoman magazine and 1989 graduate of DePauw University, is a recipient of the prestigious Office Depot "Businesswoman of the Year" award for 2006. Only nine businesswomen nationwide received the award.

"Ms. Garvey truly exemplifies the entrepreneurial success that women can achieve in the marketplace," says Cynthia Campbell, executive vice president of Office Depot's business solutions division. "She was selected for this honor based on her leadership ability, mentoring of other businesswomen and altruistic commitment to her community." 

"It is truly an honor to receive such a distinguished award," notes Garvey. "I'm grateful to eWomen Network for the nomination and I salute Office Depot for its extraordinary commitment to recognize the success and achievements of women business owners. I'm also proud to represent Austin and Central Texas in Austin Womanreceiving this award."

Garvey, who served six years as a member of the DePauw Alumni Board, was also recently presented with the BigAustin BiG IDEA "Creative Award." She was cited for having the most innovative business concept in the Austin, Texas marketplace.

Austinwoman is the fastest-growing niche magazine in Central Texas focused on celebrating women businesses and community causes. In August, Garvey will expand her business venture by launching the first women's Liberty Fitness franchise in Austin.
