Kelly Morrison 2008 HP.jpgNovember 19, 2008, Greencastle, Ind. - "Kelly (Morrison) Jones knows a little about how to play winning basketball. She just hopes some of that knowledge can rub off on this year's Lady Vikings." Jones, the new head head girl's varsity basketball coach at Indiana's Huntington North High School -- her alma mater -- and 1999 graduate of DePauw University, is the subject of a feature in Indiana's Huntington Herald-Press.

"Jones was part of the 1995 Lady Viking team that went 25-1 and won the state championship. She also set the Huntington North record for three-pointers in a career," writes Sean Giggy. "After graduating from Huntington North, Jones attended DePauw University. By the end of her career with the Lady Tigers, Jones Basketball Baseline.jpgheld every three-point record (they still stand today) and in her final year was a finalist for the Jostens Trophy, an award given to the top player in NCAA Division III."

The new coach inherits a team that was 14-10 last season and saw its leading scorer and rebounder graduate. "I'm very excited about this opportunity," she tells the newspaper. "Getting to know the girls has been a great experience and I'm really excited to see what we can do this season. It's always a dream that once you go through the experiences that I had at Huntington North, to be able to come back and lead a team."

Jones spent the last two seasons as head coach at Greensburg, Indiana's North Decatur High, where she posted a 26-17 mark. She took her current job in June.
