Student Employment Awards Ceremony 2024

The National Student Employment Association declares every April student employee appreciation week. This year we wanted to do something special for our students and their supervisors to showcase the work they contribute to DePauw University everyday. Students and supervisors worked together to submit nominations for students and supervisors in various categories. All the the content from the ceremony can be viewed here!

Nominees:

Between the four awards for this ceremony, there was a total of 105 nominees. As there were so many nominees, not every nominee could be highlighted at the ceremony. A small committee of staff members who were not nominated and do not supervise any student employees went through individual nomination to highlight front runners and choose winners for each category.

Job Readiness Award

This award was designated to a student who has made demonstrable efforts in preparing themselves for their career, post undergrad. This can be in job experience related to their eventual field, seminars/webinars they may have attended, participation in Hubbard Center career development activities (resume reviews, career fairs, networking events, ETC) and other career development activities.

We had a lot of top quality nominations for this award: here are some quotes from the nominations:

Finally, the supervisor of the year award! Student employment and the Hubbard Center offers a huge thank you not only to our amazing students who nominated their supervisors, but also to the supervisors themselves; because of the quality of your work as student supervisors, there were over 60 nominations for this award. Clearly you have made a lasting impact on the students you work with. Student employment at DePauw could not run without the work you do so a massive thank you to all of our supervisors.

Here are some quotes from nominations in this category:

"She is ALWAYS making it known that our work does not go unnoticed!!! She is simply the best! If I could nominate her 100 times I would! She is not only extremely committed to her job, but she is committed to making sure her student employees are doing well both in school and in our personal lives." - Pam Woodall, nominated by Alexis Cagan

"Aside from just being a boss, Kathy has become a true friend and mentor and I am forever grateful that to her, being my supervisor is much more than just her job. Kathy truly represents what a great supervisor should be!" - Kathy McMurtrie, nominated by Shaelyn Maedor

"As busy as she is, she is never too busy to take the time to review my resume, write me a letter of recommendation, or help me write an email to find jobs/internships for when I graduate this year. If this nomination wasn't for her I'd probably have her proof read it for me right now. As a friend, she is also there for us in our personal aspects of life, always letting us take time for school/sports, giving us advice, or buying us Starbucks cause it's just one of those days. She truly is amazing at what she does but is also a wonderful person. I cannot imagine someone more deserving of this award!" - Melynda Link, nominated by many students with this nomination from Gabrielle Moore
