Class of 1970

Class of 1970

An important message about the Class of 1970’s 50th Reunion

Our planning for a special class reunion June 11-14 has been upended by the coronavirus pandemic. DePauw University has cancelled this year’s Alumni Reunion Weekend in Greencastle, and it has advised us that our class celebration is now scheduled to take place June 10-13, 2021.

While we are very disappointed by the cancellation, we pledge to plan a bigger and better 51st  reunion and to join with members of the Class of 1971 in making reunion weekend next June a memorable one. Please save the date and bookmark this webpage for updates.

We thank our 50th reunion volunteers for their time and energy in contacting classmates and look forward to working together in creative ways to connect our class in 2021. We also thank our colleagues in DePauw’s Office of Alumni Engagement for their guidance and help in event planning, communications, and fund-raising.

Keep safe, be well, and please stay in touch.

UPDATE ABOUT ALUMNI REUNION WEEKEND 2020

While Alumni Reunion Weekend 2020 will not take place as originally scheduled, we will share additional details about the June 2021 reunion once we support the university in more pressing matters. Information about COVID-19 is constantly evolving and changing. Because of this, our plans will continue to evolve and change, as well.

We appreciate your patience as we all navigate the effects of the pandemic. In the meantime, please read these FAQs for some common questions and answers. If you do not see an answer to your questions or concern, please feel free to email us at alumnioffice@depauw.edu. Please check back often as we will update this information as decisions are reached and more information and news is shared.

When is Alumni Reunion Weekend at DePauw?

The 50th Reunion for the Class of 1970 has been postponed to the weekend of June 10-13, 2021. Special social events, programs and a convocation led by members of the class of 1970 will still highlight Alumni Reunion Weekend. Save the date!

Where will I find information about next year’s reunion?

Updates about the rescheduled reunion will be posted on this webpage and communicated through DePauw’s Office of Alumni Engagement.

You also may email questions to alumnioffice@depauw.edu,

Will I get my money back for my Reunion 2020 registration?

Yes, we are refunding the full cost of all registrations minus any gifts included with your registration and you should see a credit issued within the next 30 days. We are also offering the option to donate your registration fees to support DePauw students.

Has Alumni Reunion Weekend been rescheduled?

We will be welcoming classes back for the June 2021 reunion weekend but will need some time with the additional details and planning. Please check back in the coming months for additional information.

What are the dates for Alumni Reunion Weekend 2021?

Alumni Reunion Weekend is scheduled for June 9-13, 2021. Please check back for updates on this schedule.

Can I donate my registration fees instead?

Yes, if you would like to donate your registration fees in lieu of a refund, please email us at alumnioffice@depauw.edu by April 30, 2020.

Can I apply my registration fees to a future Reunion instead of receiving a refund?

No. We will be issuing refunds to all alumni and will not hold registrations for a future date. We apologize for this inconvenience.

I already booked my flights to come to Reunion. What should I do?

We would suggest you immediately contact the venue from which you purchased your ticket(s); whether that be a travel agent, a booking website (such as Expedia, Kayak, etc.), or an airline. All airlines and travel partners have been extremely flexible in terms of canceling flights or giving customers credit for future flights.

Will the University help to cover some (or all) of the travel expenses that I already incurred?

We apologize, but we cannot assist with travel expenses. We do know that all hotels and airlines have been extremely flexible with cancellations given the global pandemic and the cancelation of most large-scale events across the United States and all over the world. Please contact them directly to request a refund or credit.

Is the University still open?

Currently, the University is still open as we are considered an essential business, but the campus is not open for visitors. Most non-essential staff are working remotely right now, and the Development and Alumni Engagement staff all have access to emails and phones. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you need anything.

Can I come to campus anyway and just look around?

For the health and safety of students who are remaining on campus, as well as our employees who will be providing support and other essential campus operations, no outside visitors are permitted until further notice. This decision is necessary to prevent unintended exposure to the virus that causes COVID-19.

What will happen to the Alumni Award recipients?

Alumni Award recipients will still receive their awards. More details are forthcoming regarding the exact date of this program.

I know my class was raising funds to create a new fund. What will happen with this effort?

Class gifts for class years ending in 0 or 5 will close on June 30, 2020, as planned. Fundraising efforts will continue until this time. We look forward to celebrating those class gifts at Alumni Reunion Weekend in 2021.

I made a multi-year pledge to support my class’s giving goals. What will happen to my pledge?

Current pledges and class goals will not change.  Fundraising for class years ending in 0 or 5 will continue until June 30, 2020.

It’s been 30 days and I didn’t get a refund. What should I do?

Contact the Office of Alumni Engagement at 877-658-2586. While we are working remotely at this time, we are monitoring phones consistently, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (EDT). If you get our voicemail, please leave your name,  phone number and the reason for your call. We will call you back as soon as possible.
