Gallery Talk in Pulled, Pressed, and Screened: Important American Prints Tuesday, November 28: 11:40 – 12:20pm Lower Gallery Join Dr. Katherine Mintie, a postdoctoral fellow in the Art and Art History Department here at DePauw, for a guided tour of the current exhibit Pulled, Pressed, and Screened: Important American Prints. Dr. Mintie recently completed her doctoral degree at the University of California, Berkeley. She specializes in the art of the United States and the history of photography. |

Artist Lecture with Ken Gonzales-Day Tuesday, November 14: 4:15pm Peeler Art Center, Auditorium Ken Gonzales-Day is a Los Angeles based artist whose interdisciplinary practice considers the historical construction of race and the limits of representational systems ranging from lynching photographs to museum displays. His widely-cited Erased Lynching series, along with the publication of Lynching in the West: 1850-1935 in 2006, has slowly transformed the understanding of racialized violence in the United States and specifically raised awareness of the history of lynching Latinos and other communities of color in California. Free and open to the public, join us on Tuesday, November 14 at 4:15PM in the Peeler Auditorium to hear Ken discuss his work in the exhibition Shadowlands (on display from November 14th until December 15th in the Visual Arts Gallery at the Peeler Art Center). This project is made possible by the support of the Indiana Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, the Janet Prindle Institute for Ethics, Peace & Conflict Studies, and the Department of Art & Art History.  |

ArtsFest: Gallery Tour of Jiha Moon Exhibition Friday, October 27: 11:40 – 12:20pm Visual Arts Gallery Join Craig Hadley, Director/Curator, and Alexandra Chamberlain, Assistant Curator, for a guided tour and Q&A session of the current exhibit Double Welcome, Most Everyone's Mad Here. Based in Atlanta, Georgia, artist Jiha Moon harvests cultural elements native to Korea, Japan, and China and then unites them with Western elements to investigate the multi-faceted nature of our current global identity as influenced by popular culture, technology, racial perceptions, and folklore. Featuring over fifty works, Moon blurs the lines between Western and Eastern identified iconography such as the characters from the online game Angry Birds© and smart phone Emojis which float alongside Asian tigers and Indian gods, in compositions that appear both familiar and foreign simultaneously. Free and open to the public, this event is part of ArtsFest 2017: Art & Origin. |

Tibetan Art: A Gallery Talk with Bruce Walker ’53 Thursday, September 28: 4:15pm University gallery, upper level Bruce Walker graduated from DePauw in 1953. After two years in the Marine Corps, he became a case officer with the Central Intelligence Agency (1956-1973), working on the Agency's Tibetan resistance project 1960-1968, codenamed STCIRCUS. While stationed in India and Sikkim during the period 1962-1968, he assembled Tibetan thangkas and religious objects into a collection which he donated to DePauw in 2002. Join us in the gallery for an evening of conversation with Mr. Walker. Free copies of the exhibition catalog Infinite Splendor, Infinite Light, will also be available. Funding for this exhibition is generously provided by the Arthur E. Klauser Endowment and the Asian Studies program. |

Percussion @ Peeler Wednesday, May 3, 2017, 6:30pm Peeler Art Center, University Gallery (lower level) The DePauw Percussion Ensemble presents its annual program of contemporary solo and chamber works for percussion, composed and improvised, in a non-traditional concert setting. Directed by Dr. Ming-Hui Kuo, the one-hour performance fuses contemporary art and music in the galleries at Peeler. Refreshments will be served following the event. |
