Saturday, September 28, 2024, 1pm - 4pm EDT
Peeler Art Center, Lobby

You're invited to a tapestry workshop led by Bryana Bibbs. “Woven Narratives" is a weaving installation that invites participants to weave their writings and found objects on a large-scale frame loom. During this workshop, participants will spend time writing about whatever they choose (fears, anxieties, joys, successes, etc.). After writing they “purge” those writings by ripping, tearing, and cutting them apart so they can be woven on the frame loom. Participants are also invited to bring objects of significant meaning to be woven into the piece.

This workshop is part of the Beyond: Tapestry Expanded exhibition, on view at the Peeler Art Center from August 26 to December 8, 2024. The exhibition showcases innovative tapestry works that blend traditional and digital techniques, non-traditional materials, and multimedia elements. All skill levels can join this unique opportunity to learn from a leading artist in the field.*This event counts towards punch card credit for students enrolled in an art history, art studio, or design course.

During covid, the dioramas became a form of escapism, where viewers could pretend to shop in the konbini (convenience store), enjoy having friends over and playing in the kawaii bedroom, crafting in the pastel hobby room, or relaxing outside in the forest. The environments invite viewers into another world and my dolls are the tour guides.

Stories about loss, relating to family, class, gender, land and identity– fuel my documentary photography and video works. I believe stories are central to our lives and can aid in dispelling stereotypes, exposing inequity, and illuminating unjust power systems. Stories, chronicles several decades of my documentary work.
