Senior's Connection to Stanford's Andrew Luck Noted in Newspaper Column

November 28, 2011

103138November 28, 2011, Greencastle, Ind. — "Separated by 2,234 miles and light years, in terms of talent, Andrew Luck and Will King have maintained a bond," begins a column by the South Bend Tribune's Al Lesar. "Since the seventh grade, Luck and King have competed. Luck usually won. They're both quarterbacks."

The piece notes how King was Luck's backup at Stratford High School in Houston, Texas. Luck is a candidate for the Heisman Trophy for his standout play at Stanford University. Lesar writes, "King went a different direction. A backup quarterback at Division III DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., for most of his time there, injuries allowed King to get a rare start in his final game a couple of weeks ago, a lopsided loss to rival Wabash."

King, a senior, says of his relationship with Luck, "We still talk a couple times a month and text a lot. He sent me a 103105pre-game text (before the Monon Bell game with Wabash), wishing me luck. He goes out of his way to keep in touch. It's amazing that a guy who's as busy as Andrew, takes that kind of time for his friends."

You'll find the complete piece at the Tribune's website.

The King-Luck connection was also noted in a television news report which aired November 13 on Indianapolis Fox affiliate WXIN.  Read more here, or view the clip on YouTube.
